After a lengthy 185-day wait without any football action, which saw two international breaks missed and a double-header against Cameroon reduced to a single match due to delays by the visitors, followed by a change of dates, the Super Falcons of Nigeria took to the pitch and got a commanding – morale boosting 2-0 victory over Cameroon, on Tuesday, June 3, at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The topsy–turvy yet highly anticipated friendly match, saw Nigeria take the lead in the 28th minute from the spot, through captain Rasheedat Ajibade, after she was fouled in the box. Two minutes before halftime, Ajibade doubled the lead, slotting calm into the net, a beautiful assist from Rinsola Babajide.

The visitors made several attempts to pull one back, but the Super Falcons’ defence stood firm and withstood the pressure, ultimately grabbing the victory.

The Super Falcons will have another friendly against Portugal on Monday, June 23, 2025. Both matches serve as a crucial preparation ahead of the 13th WAFCON, scheduled to take place from July 5 to July 26, 2025, in Morocco. The tournament will feature 12 nations vying for continental supremacy.

Coach Justine Madugu said the victory is a good psychological boost for his squad as they continue preparations for the 13th Women AFCON.

Nigeria will be aiming for a 10th triumph in the competition, having won the trophy nine times since it was launched as a tournament in 1998. The Super Falcons also won in 1991 and 1995, when it was staged only as home-and-away FIFA World Cup qualifying games.
