As residents of Bonny Island in Rivers State anticipate the kick-off of construction work on the road expansion from Shell gate to Coal Beach, representatives of the project beneficiary, project sponsor, and proposed vendors embarked on a last minute inspection tour of the project area.
On the inspection tour were officials of the Bonny Kingdom Development Committee (BKDC), representing the project beneficiary, Bonny Kingdom; the project sponsor, Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG), and proposed vendors for the project, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Evomec Global Services Limited and Megastar Technical & Construction Company Limited, and the Bonny Utility Company (BUC).

During the inspection tour, which took place on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, the agreed dimensions, specific features in the front-end engineering design (FEED), and other key considerations were checked out to ensure the proposed vendors understood the project scope.
In an interview with Kristina Reports, the BKDC Chairman, Amairigha Hart, who led the inspection tour, stated that the three vendors were proposed by the BKDC on behalf of Bonny Kingdom to the NLNG for one of them to be chosen to deliver the project, hence the need for them to participate in the tour.

“This is as agreed in our last engagement meeting with NLNG in Port Harcourt that we are going to embark on this exercise today to carry out a thorough inspection to know the structures that have been demolished if they actually fall within what we expected for the road construction to run through without any hitch.”
“The reason these vendors are here is because these are the vendors the Kingdom and NLNG have agreed are qualified to carry out this job for the Kingdom.”
“We want the best for the Kingdom and that is why NLNG and the Kingdom have agreed for these three vendors to come and carry out this inspection because any of them can be given this job to do and that is the position.”

He pointed out that the three vendors were considered qualified to do the job given that all three are based in Bonny Island, have proven track record of optimum performance and are well accepted by the people of Bonny Kingdom.
“So, the first reason why these three vendors are being considered is that these three vendors are well known; all of them have their base here in Bonny, and technically they are also sound. So, that is the reason we have all decided together with NLNG that these three vendors are the best to be given this construction to handle being a kingdom project.”
“These three companies that are here with us today will be able to give us the satisfaction we need as a people as far as this road is concerned.”
The expansion project which covers the Shell Road, Mission Road and King William Dappa Pepple Road terminating at the Coal Beach with a spur off the Amaomu Junction including Court Road and terminating at the Palace is one of the corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects for the NLNG Train 7 project.
