The Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG) has reassured stakeholders in Bonny Kingdom of its commitment to delivering Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects associated with its Train 7 project.
In a statement signed by its General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development, Sophia Horsfall, the NLNG addressed concerns over the status of the projects.
It acknowledged reports of planned protests at work sites in Bonny Island, emphasizing that the projects remain firmly on track.
“Our attention has been drawn to reports of concerns regarding the status of NLNG’s Train 7-related Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects in Bonny Kingdom, as well as plans for a protest at the various work sites.”
“NLNG wishes to unequivocally reassure all stakeholders that it remains fully committed to delivering social investments and Nigerian Content benefits to its host community, Bonny Kingdom, and Rivers State.”
The company highlighted two major initiatives: the Shell Gate-Coal Beach Road with a spur to the Perekule Palace Road and the Bonny Vehicular Terminal (BVT), as key components of its CSR efforts.
According to NLNG, both projects have completed the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) phase and moved into the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contracting phase. Work on these projects is set to begin immediately, with completion scheduled for 2027.
“As part of its CSR initiatives, two major projects—the Shell Gate-Coal Beach with a Spur to the Perekule Palace Road and the Bonny Vehicular Terminal (BVT)—have been carefully identified and agreed upon with all relevant stakeholders.”
“The Shell Gate-Coal Beach with a Spur to the Perekule Palace Road and the Bonny Vehicular Terminal project have already reached a major milestone with the completion of the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) phase and the commencement of the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contracting phase. Both projects are on track for immediate commencement and slated for completion in 2027.”
NLNG reaffirmed its history of impactful CSR programs, citing past initiatives linked to Trains 1 through 6, which have significantly contributed to the development of Bonny Kingdom.
The company stated that its efforts have consistently improved infrastructure and the quality of life for residents, reinforcing Bonny Island’s status as a model of sustainable development in the Niger Delta.

Describing the Train 7 project as a critical driver of gas development in Nigeria, NLNG reiterated its commitment to delivering substantial Nigerian Content benefits alongside community development initiatives.
The company called for continued stakeholder collaboration, assuring the community of its resolve to meet its commitments and foster long-term progress in Bonny Kingdom and Rivers State.
Despite the current concerns, NLNG called for ongoing support and cooperation from the community and stakeholders, asserting that the company remains focused on its goals to contribute to the region’s development and create lasting, positive change.

The delay in the delivery of the CSR projects associated with the NLNG Train 7 project sparked protests across the Bonny Island on Monday, January 13, 2025 but the deft moves by the company to engage relevant authorities to intervene and appeal for reprieve put the protests in abeyance.
