In a decisive move to checkmate the growing trend of indiscriminate parking and abandonment of vehicles along the roads, the Bonny Local Government has issued a 7-day ultimatum to vehicle owners and roadside mechanics to remove any such vehicles.
A statement by the Administrator, Kingsley Banigo on Monday, May 19, 2025 tagged “ROADSIDE PARKING OF VEHICLES PROHIBITED, 7 DAYS ULTIMATUM ISSUED TO DEFAULTERS” stated that such “practice obstructs free traffic flow, compromises public safety, and diminishes the aesthetic value of our environment”.

The statement said the directive is “effective immediately”, asserting that “all vehicle owners are directed to remove any vehicles parked or abandoned on public roadsides within the stipulated timeframe”.
“Failure to comply will result in the immediate towing and impoundment of such vehicles. Defaulters will bear the full cost of towing and storage as prescribed by the relevant regulations.”
Concerned watchers of the trend have over time raised the alarm over the practice by roadside mechanics and vehicle owners who abandon their vehicles on the road, especially, along the King Perekule axis of the Bodo-Bonny Road.
Flashpoints include Shell gate, Access Bank axis down to Zenith Bank, UBA axis and Winners Chapel area. Others include Willbros Road and Akiama Junction.
