The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) says it is poised to complete the Bonny Ring Road and Bridge by the first quarter of 2027.

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku said this on Friday, July 4, 2025, when alongside the Commission’s Executive Director, Projects, Victor Antai, and other management staff defied a heavy downpour to inspect the project in Bonny, Rivers State.

According to Dr Ogbuku, the project, which spans 27.14 kilometers road project comprising 13 bridges and 26 kilometers of concrete pavement, is being executed in partnership with the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG).

Checks by Kristina Reports reveal that I while the NLNG is providing 80% of the N370 billion funding for the long-awaited project, the Federal Government through the NDDC will shoulder the balance 20%.

Reliable sources within the NLNG hinted Kristina Reports that the company had already made available N300 billion out of the N375 billion needed for the project. According to our sources, this amount is actually, the NLNG’s three per cent statutory contribution to the NDDC.

According to our sources, the NLNG insisted on tying the fund to an identifiable project which progress it can monitor, and after lengthy deliberations, it was mutually agreed to invest the funds into the Bonny Ring Road with NDDC providing the 20% or N75 billion balance.

Dr Ogbuku stated that upon completion, the road is expected to significantly improve the socio-economic fortunes of Bonny Kingdom and the Niger Delta at large.

The NDDC Chief Executive also informed that the Commission will synergize with the Bonny Kingdom Development Committee (BKDC) to ensure transparency and quality assurance, assuring commuters in the area that in to years’ time they would be bale to use the road.

The long awaited N370 billion Bonny Ring Road is effectively underway and is expected to connect about 100 communities on the North Eastern flank of Bonny LGA including Bagg Jumbo, Nunabie, George Pepple, Otobie, Banigo, Dan-Jumbo, Greens Iwoama, Burukiri, Sangama, Minima, Orupiri and Oloma, among several others.

When completed and connected with the Bodo-Bonny Road, it would effectively de-escalate the over-population crisis already building up in Bonny Town – from Abalamabie to Finima to Madupolo – as most indigenes will move over to their respective communities and commute from there to Bonny or Port Harcourt or anywhere else.
