Work has commenced in earnest on the long-awaited Bonny Ring Road in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State, which is envisaged to interconnect about 100 riverine communities, settlements and plantations.

A visit by a team from Kristina Reports to the project site at Abalamabie Community by Palladium Hub showed earthworks being carried out by earth moving machines which were clearing the bushes, grading the road and creating gullies to evacuate ground water from the site.

So far, a distance of about five kilometers have been covered in the construction work that residents told Kristina Reports commenced about a week ago.

Some residents of the area who spoke with Kristina Reports expressed joy at the commencement of work on the road, disclosing that work started about a week ago with earthmoving equipment on site and clearing the surrounding bushes.

While thanking those responsible for the project, they appealed to them to ensure it goes on seamlessly and not be interrupted again like it happened years ago.

Kristina Reports was yet to ascertain which agency of government or private sector organization that is responsible for the project, though sources hinted offline that it was a tripartite arrangement between Bonny Kingdom, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG).

There are about a 100 communities, settlements and plantations on the Eastern flank of Bonny LGA which include the hometown of the Amanyanabo of Bonny, George-Pepple, immediate past Chairman of Bonny LGA, Greens Iwoama, Dan-Jumbo, Banigo, Burukiri, Orupiri, Oloma and Sangama.

These and many more are expected to be interconnected by road when the project is completed.
