The Sole Administrator of Bonny Local Government Area, Kingsley Banigo has restricted movement across the island on Saturday, April 26, 2025 thus effectively frustrating candidates who registered for the 2025 Universal Tertiary Matriculation Examinations from sitting for their examinations.

The decision, which appears to be an obvious display of insensitivity to the educational advancement of children in Bonny LGA, was announced via a statement he personally signed and posted on the official Meta (formerly Facebook) account of the Bonny Local Government on the evening of Friday, April 26, 2025.

“This is to formally notify all residents and business owners within Bonny Local Government Area that the monthly environmental sanitation exercise for April will take place on Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM.

The exercise will be closely supervised by the LGA Administrator, Mr. Kingsley Banigo, to ensure active participation by all, with particular emphasis on the cleaning of drainage channels, clearing of overgrown grasses, and the proper disposal of waste at designated collection points.

All residents and business owners are strongly advised to comply with this directive. During this time, movement will be strictly restricted.”

Checks by Kristina Reports across the country shows that the 2025 UTME, which is organized by the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB), began on Thursday, April 24, 2025 and is ongoing nationwide, with over two million candidates participating.

Candidates are reported to have printed their examination slips to confirm their exam dates and locations.

In Bonny, the examinations are holding at the JAMB UTME Computer Based Test (CBT) Centre located inside the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny, along Abalamabie Road.

With candidates spread across the island and coming from far-flung locations like Finima, Coal Beach, Abalamabie, Burukiri, Orosikiri, Dema-Abbey, and Peterside, amongst others, it becomes difficult for the young people to access their centre.

A very worried parent, whose son is supposed to sit for the examinations tomorrow, lamented to Kristina Reports about the plight of her son, wondering “is this what this illegality is all about? To frustrate children from writing their exams? Is that why they appointed him?”

Another parent, who prefers not to be named as he works with the Bonny Local Government, called on the Sole Administrator to immediately call off the environmental sanitation.

Already, in proactive move, the Finima Youth Congress had announced that due to the examinations, amongst other issues, there will be no environmental sanitation or restriction of movement across Finima to enable youths in the Community get to their examination centres.
