BREAKING! Registration Opens for 2025 Bonny Island Marathon

The Local Organising Committee for the Bonny Island Marathon (BIM) has announced the commencement of registration for the 2025 edition of the prestigious annual event, which is scheduled to take place on Saturday, December 20, 2025.

The LOC announced this via a statement on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 signed by the Race Director, Bonny Island Marathon, Boma Halliday, in Bonny, Rivers State.

It informed that the registration for the event will run from Wednesday, June 25 to Sunday, November 30, 2025.

This year’s edition of the Marathon, themed “Miles2Gr8ness,” is celebrating eight years of impactful growth, transformative community engagement, and the milestone opening of the historic Bonny-Bodo Road.

The Bonny-Bodo Road, which now links Bonny Island to mainland Rivers State, revolutionises logistics and access, enhancing this year’s marathon experience.

In the previous edition, Plateau State’s Musa Bala clinched the Elite Male category, setting a new 15-kilometre course record of 55:11, surpassing Alliyu Abdullahi Muhammed’s previous 55:19. Bala’s record-breaking run earned him a ₦500,000 cash prize.

In the Elite Female category, Charity Agofure from Delta State won with a time of 1:06:15, also securing ₦500,000.

In the teen races, Tamunosa Jackwilson Pepple from Rivers State and Miracle Afangideh from Akwa Ibom State took the Teen Male and Teen Female titles, respectively. 

Key Activities lined up for this year’s tournament with their timelines include Open Call for Registration; June – 2025, Media Tour, Stakeholders Engagement, Fitness to Participate Tests; August – October 2025, BIM Walk-A-Thon; October 2025, Close of Registration; November 2025, Pre-Marathon Community Tour, Community service, Kits Collection and Health Expo; December 15 – 19, 2025, and Main Race Day, Award Ceremony and Fiesta Celebration; December 20, 2025.

With over 10,000 runners expected to participate in the eighth edition of the event, the marathon will act as a gathering point for athletes, tourists, brands, and communities from Nigeria and beyond.

Bonny Island, situated in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria, is a coastal hub experiencing rapid transformation.
