The Supreme Court has set aside the judgement of the Court of Appeal in Abuja that recognised Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party.
In a unanimous judgement on Friday, April 4, 2025, the apex court put a final lead on the tussle or the leadership of the party.

The decision taken by a five-man panel of the apex court held that the Court of Appeal lacked the jurisdiction to pronounce Abure the National Chairman of the Labour Party.
It held that this was due to the fact that the court had earlier found that the substance of the case was about the party’s leadership.
It held that the issue of leadership was an internal affair of the party over which courts lacked jurisdiction.
The court however held that the appeal filed by a former Minister of Finance, Nenadi Usman and one other was meritorious.
