The Primate of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Church), Most Reverend Henry Ndukuba, has strongly condemned the election of Reverend Cherry Vann as the new Archbishop of Wales.
The Primate, who issued this condemnation on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 via a statement he personally signed, criticized Vann’s election, describing it as a clear departure from the foundations of the Christian faith.

According to Ndukuba, the Archbishop-elect has openly supported same-sex marriage and engaged in homosexual activities, actions he described as perversions that compromise biblical truth and defile the Church.
“The Church of Nigeria remains committed to upholding the authority of Scripture and will not support any deviation from the path of righteousness”.
He further expressed concern over the continued division within the Anglican Communion, attributing much of the damage to leaders who have supported same-sex unions.

He noted that such decisions have caused spiritual decline, persecution of faithful believers, and loss of unity within the body of Christ.
The Primate also referenced the tenure of former U.S. Archbishop, Katherine Schori, under whose primacy similar positions were upheld, leading to what he called further erosion of Christian doctrine.
In his message, the Church of Nigeria emphasized that it does not and will not recognize the election of Cherry Vann, calling for repentance and a return to biblical truth.
