Community Schools: Tamvina, Lucille Shine at Children’s Day Parade as LG Administrator Tasks Parents on Child Upbringing

The 2025 Children’s Day celebration in Bonny Local Government Area was marked with excitement, colour, and competition as pupils and students from various schools participated in a grand parade on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at the Government School field, Bonny.

In a speech at the parade, the Administrator of Bonny LGA, Kingsley Banigo underscored the importance of wholesome child development, calling on parents, teachers, and guardians to continue playing their roles effectively.

Represented by the Secretary to Local Government, Tonye Jumbo, the Administrator noted that the roles played by parents, teachers and guardians are vital in grooming the next generation.

“Today, we gather to commemorate this important occasion, which serves as a reminder of the value our government places on our children, our future leaders.”

“Let us reaffirm our unwavering support and commitment to the needs and well-being of every child in our community.”

Banigo, while addressing guests and participants, emphasized that the upbringing of children is a shared responsibility, praising the efforts of educators and guardians, urging them to remain steadfast, as their work forms the bedrock of a strong and responsible society.

He also encouraged the children to stay focused on their studies and avoid activities that could endanger their future.

“Your education is the key to unlocking your potential and contributing positively to society”.

The parade featured spirited performances from both primary and secondary school students, with winners emerging in different categories.

The parade winners as announced by the judges led by a seasoned but now retired teacher, Kalada Jumbo, are Tamvina International School, Abalamabie, Community Primary School, Abalamabie, and Model Primary School, Bonny, which emerged first, second and third, respectively, in the Primary School Category.

In the Junior Secondary School (JSS) Category, Community Junior Secondary School, Bonny, Community Junior Secondary School, Finima, and Community Junior Secondary School, Abalamabie, came out first, second and third, respectively.

In the Senior Secondary School (SSS) Category, Bonny National Grammar School (BNGS) came first, followed by Lucille Education Centre, and Community Secondary School, Lighthouse, which emerged second and third, respectively.

The event highlighted the vibrancy and talent among school children in Bonny LGA, with the top performing schools earning applause from attendees.

The ceremony concluded with cheers and festivities, leaving smiles on the faces of many young participants.
