Cubana Chief Priest has set the internet buzzing after publicly describing Nigerian music star Davido as the “Author and Finisher of Afrobeats.”

The declaration was made on November 2, 2025, following Davido’s thrilling performance in Enugu.

Taking to Instagram, the nightlife boss poured praises on the singer, saying he sometimes wonders how he met someone as impactful as Davido.

He hailed the DMW boss as the “Author & Finisher of Afrobeats,” adding that Davido’s success continues to inspire countless young Africans to believe in their dreams and push for greatness.

However, the remark did not go unnoticed.

Within hours, it sparked a storm of reactions across social media as fans, critics, and fellow music lovers weighed in on the true pioneers of Afrobeats.

While many supporters agreed with Cubana Chief Priest’s sentiment, calling Davido a pacesetter who has helped globalize the sound of Afrobeats, others disagreed, insisting that the genre’s success cannot be credited to one person alone.

Some music enthusiasts pointed to Wizkid’s international collaborations, Burna Boy’s Grammy win, and 2Baba’s early influence as key milestones that shaped the genre long before it became a global phenomenon.

One fan on X (formerly Twitter) wrote, “Davido is a giant, no doubt, but Afrobeats has many fathers, it’s not a one-man story.”

Another commented, “Cubana Chief Priest is right; Davido gave Afrobeats its soul and energy.”

“Without him, the sound wouldn’t be this big.”

This latest statement follows a similar one Cubana Chief Priest made on October 28, 2025, after Davido’s sold-out concert at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

Then, he boldly declared that “without Davido, Afrobeats is a bastard,” calling the singer “the papa of Afrobeats.”

That earlier post also ignited arguments, especially after a fan mentioned Burna Boy and Cubana Chief Priest replied, “The bingo go cry,” which many interpreted as a direct jab.

Now, his new proclamation in Enugu has reignited the conversation about who truly deserves credit for shaping the ever-evolving Afrobeats movement.

Whether or not Davido is the “Author and Finisher” of Afrobeats, one fact stands firm, his influence, consistency, and global reach continue to make him one of the strongest voices in African music history.
