Trinidadian rapper and global music icon, Nicki Minaj, has been invited to the United Nations after publicly praising former U.S. President Donald Trump for addressing the persecution of Christians in Nigeria.
The unexpected development began on October 31, 2025, when Trump announced that Nigeria had been designated as a “Country of Particular Concern” under the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998.

He stated that the move was in response to what he described as “the mass killings of Christians in Nigeria by radical Islamist groups.”
Reacting to Trump’s post, Nicki Minaj took to X (formerly Twitter) to express deep appreciation for the statement and called for compassion and unity across all religions.
“Reading this made me feel a deep sense of gratitude,” Minaj wrote.
“We live in a country where we can freely worship God.”
“No group should ever be persecuted for practicing their religion.”
“We don’t have to share the same beliefs in order for us to respect each other.”
“Thank you to the President and his team for taking this seriously. God bless every persecuted Christian.”
Her post quickly went viral, drawing widespread attention and sparking both support and criticism.
While many applauded her for speaking out on a global humanitarian issue, others accused her of endorsing Trump’s politics.
Among those who publicly acknowledged Minaj’s statement was U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Mike Waltz, who extended an open invitation to the superstar.
“@NICKIMINAJ, thank you for using your platform to speak out in defense of the Christians being persecuted in Nigeria,” Waltz wrote on X.
“If you ever find yourself in New York, come by the U.S. Embassy to the United Nations.”
“I would love to speak with you in more depth about what our administration is doing to protect Christians’ freedoms all over the world.”
Minaj responded promptly, saying she would be honored to accept the invitation.
“I’d be honoured. Thank you, Ambassador,” she replied.
The exchange marks a rare intersection between pop culture and international diplomacy, underscoring how celebrities are increasingly using their influence to spotlight global social and political concerns.
While the invitation is not a formal appointment or diplomatic role, it signifies recognition of Minaj’s willingness to engage in conversations beyond music and entertainment.

In Nigeria, the matter of Christian persecution remains a deeply sensitive and politically charged topic.
The Nigerian government has repeatedly denied claims that Christians are being targeted, describing the violence as part of a broader national security challenge involving multiple communities and groups.
Meanwhile, global media outlets and human-rights organizations continue to report conflicting narratives on the scale and nature of religiously motivated violence in the country.
Minaj’s involvement has now added a new dimension to the debate, bridging entertainment, politics, and faith on the international stage.
As reactions continue to pour in, it remains to be seen whether the rapper’s engagement with the United Nations will lead to a larger advocacy role or policy conversation on religious freedom in Africa’s most populous nation.
