Eleme Legislative Assembly Holds Emergency Sitting Over Onne Violence 

The Eleme Legislative Assembly, led by Samwi Gberewa convened an emergency sitting to address the escalating violence in Onne, Rivers State on Tuesday, February 4, 2025. 

The meeting is held with the to discuss the ongoing unrest in Onne, which has resulted in loss of lives and instability. The lawmakers condemned the killings and vowed to take decisive action to restore peace. 

Leader of the 10th Legislative Assembly, Sanwi Gberewa expressed deep concern over the situation, stating, “We cannot stand idly by while innocent lives are lost to criminal elements. The security agencies must take swift action to restore order in Onne”.

The assembly also discussed the Bylaw to Regulate Non-Classified Chieftaincy Stools in Eleme’ during its second reading. Lawmakers voiced concerns over individuals allegedly sponsoring the violence and called for immediate investigations. 

Mourning those who lost their lives in the recent attacks, the assembly extended condolences to affected families.

“Our hearts go out to the bereaved. We share in their pain and assure them that justice will be pursued”.

To tackle the crisis, the assembly announced plans to collaborate with security agencies, traditional leaders, and key stakeholders in search of a lasting solution.

The lawmakers reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all Eleme residents.
