Green House emerged victorious in the maiden edition of Brilliant Strides Academy’s Interhouse Sports, held on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at the Rivers State University Convocation Arena field.

The highly anticipated event saw fierce competition among the five houses: Blue, Green, White, Red, and Yellow. Athletes competed in various track and field events, including the 100m dash, long jump, and shot put.

Green House dominated both the pre-inter-house sports competition and the Interhouse Sports main day activities, finishing with 266 points. Yellow House came in close second with 246 points, while Red House took the third spot with 184 points.

The champions racked up a total of seven gold medals, three silvers, and three bronze in the pre-inter-house sports competitions, dominating in the High Jump, Javelin, long jump, discuss, and short put male and female events. They carried on the momentum to the events of the Interhouse Sports Day proper, snatching six gold and silver medals each.

The Saturday Interhouse Sports event began with an opening prayer, followed by the national anthem. After the formalities, the event proper began with a march past, where all five houses got into formation. The Staff of the school also participated in the march past.

The march past event was keenly contested, with Yellow House edging out Green House by four points, winning with 35 points. Red House came close to a second-place finish with 30 points, while Blue and White houses got 28 and 25 points, respectively.

The track events followed, including a “distraction race” involving Nursery Students, who surprisingly resisted the temptation of picking up candies and biscuits on the track. Other track activities, such as Fill in the Basket, 100m, 200m, relay races, and more, quickly followed as the students brought their A-game in an attempt to get medals and, ultimately, the trophy for their house. The parents were in no way left out as they were promoted from cheerleaders and spectators to competitors – taking to the track for a sprint.

Songo Walter Briggs, A Brilliant Strides Academy Mother.

Speaking to Kristina Reports after the event, Songo Walter Briggs, a mother of two girls in the school – Gabriella(Primary four) and Gianna(primary one) of Yellow House and White House respectively, expressed her pride and how impressed she was with the event.

“For my kids, I’m really proud. You know sports come with energy, so much energy, so like I would say, I’m proud of them for even participating one way or the other…”

Commenting on the Parent’s race, Mrs Briggs made known her disappointment with having to withdraw.

” I was about running during the parent’s race. I was about running when I had a small fracture on my knee. So that disqualified me. Not really disqualified me. It obstructed me to go race. My main goal was to be in the first position like I was back then when I was very much younger.”

Mrs. Briggs also praised the organization of the event and forecasting the next event.

” I was really impressed
for the first time in Brilliant Strides, this is the first, so for the first time to hold an Interhouse sports and it’s happening like this, let’s imagine how often, when maybe next year or another year, they want to participate, how it will be. I think the event will be much, much more well-organized.”
