The Imo State Government has released the official shortlist of candidates for the 2023/2024 teachers’ recruitment exercise, with training scheduled to begin on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.
The shortlist, compiled by the Imo State Universal Basic Education Board (IMSUBEB), contains the names of successful applicants drawn from the 27 local government areas of the state. Each LGA list includes candidates’ names, academic qualifications, areas of specialization, and zones of deployment.

In Aboh Mbaise LGA, for example, 326 teachers are required to fill vacancies, with shortlisted candidates holding degrees such as B.Ed, B.Sc, and NCE in core education-related fields including English, Economics, and Computer Science.
Similar vacancies and shortlists have been published for LGAs across Owerri, Orlu, and Okigwe zones.
According to the recruitment breakdown, Imo State is addressing critical manpower shortages by ensuring equitable distribution of teachers to local communities.
Candidates were shortlisted after a series of screenings, including verification of academic credentials and professional suitability.
IMSUBEB has directed all shortlisted candidates to report for the mandatory training and accreditation exercise starting Wednesday next week.
The training will be conducted in phases, with candidates expected to present original copies of their credentials, birth certificates, and government-issued identification for verification.
Education stakeholders have described the release of the shortlist and the training schedule as a “decisive step” in fulfilling Governor Hope Uzodinma’s pledge to strengthen manpower in public schools through the recruitment of thousands of new teachers.

The exercise is expected to culminate in the deployment of teachers across all 27 LGAs once the training and final accreditation are completed.
Parents and education advocates have welcomed the development, noting that it will improve teaching and learning outcomes in both rural and urban schools across Imo State.
