The Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, Charles Wobodo has warned those involved in scavenging activities in the area to desist from criminal activities while pursuing their legitimate business or face the wrath of the law.

Wobodo stated this on Thursday, November 6, 2025 during an inspection visit to Elele Market, where he stumbled on a scavenging site, with all forms of scraps gathered and hidden.

Chairman, Ikwere Local Government Area, Charles Wobodo.

He stated that the purpose of visiting the scavenging site is to find out where crimes are being perpetrated.

While warning workers at the site, Wobodo asked the owner of the facility to stop, pointing out that the local government council would not hesitate to seal, and or convert the scavenging site to local government property.

“If anybody is caught anywhere in the process of bringing anything here, I will come back to seize the place, and it will become LGA property,” he said, adding that the council wants to make sure the issue of criminality stops in the area.

“Anyhow you want to do it, I don’t want a problem, but we don’t want to hear that somebody in the course of picking something, they stole something.”
