The Chairman of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria in the Rivers Commercial District, Amasenibo Israel Waribo Pepple has expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Minister of Works David Umahi and Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area Amasenibo Abinye Blessing Pepple, DSSRS, for the temporary opening of the Bodo–Bonny Road.

In a statement on Monday, December 9, 2025 he personally signed and made exclusively available to Kristina Reports, Waribo Pepple said the decision had brought relief to residents and travellers who had suffered greatly over the years due to compulsory sea travel.

He noted that for decades, people moving in and out of Bonny had faced harsh weather conditions, high transport costs and recurring security threats on the waterways.

He said many business owners had struggled to move goods safely due to the risks of piracy and unpredictable tides.

“This temporary road opening is a major relief for our people who have endured difficult and unsafe journeys for too long,” he said.

He added that the availability of an alternative route by road would reduce travel pressure on the sea and restore confidence among commuters and workers.

He stated that the road access would also boost the local economy as traders and service providers could now bring goods into Bonny at reduced costs.

“Business people can now transport their products more cheaply, and this will reflect positively on prices and economic activity in the LGA,” he said.

He thanked President Tinubu for granting approval for the temporary opening.

He also appreciated the Minister of Works, David Umahi, for supporting the process and ensuring the opening was executed.

He further commended the Bonny LGA Chairman, Abinye Blessing Pepple, for his persistent advocacy and consistent push for progress on the road.

He urged all stakeholders to continue working together until the full completion and commissioning of the project.

He prayed for more wisdom and favour for the leaders whose efforts have brought renewed hope to Bonny.
