Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu will from Tuesday, June 10, 2025, commission 10 key projects in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja to mark his second year in office, starting with the reopening of the International Conference Centre (ICC).
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, shared this update on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, after touring some of the projects.

He explained that although 17 projects were originally proposed, the President settled for 10 for reasons known to him alone.
“The President has now approved that commissioning of the selected projects will begin on June 10, right after the Sallah break.”
“The first will be the International Conference Centre, and as you can see, everything is in place.”
“On June 11, we’ll be here in the Gishiri area to open a major road linking the Ring Road 1 interchange to Jahi. It also connects Maitama and Mabushi. So, we’re all set.”
According to Wike, the President will personally open most of the projects, but for three of them, Vice President Kashim Shettima will represent him.
He added that the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, will each commission two on the President’s behalf; while the FCT Administration will handle the remaining ones.
Wike, who mentioned that preparations are almost complete for the commissioning, informed that the President also agreed to commission two projects in satellite towns, one by the Vice President, and another by the Senate President.
“They called me on Sunday or Monday to say the road had been cleared.”
“We’re now at the ICC, checking where guests will sit and where the President will stand during the commissioning. Nothing major is left—just final checks.”
He expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for the opportunity to support the Renewed Hope Agenda, highlighting that the satellite town projects are particularly important because they allow people at the grassroots to directly feel the impact of governance and connect with national leadership.
In a final note, Wike announced a change in how the ICC will be managed going forward, stressing that “from now on, the ICC will be supervised directly by my office”.
“We’ve signed an agreement with Julius Berger to handle maintenance. This isn’t going to be a case of politicians doing as they please—it’ll be properly managed.”
