Journalists have been charged to embrace Artificial Intelligence (AI) responsibly while remaining steadfast and ethical in the discharge of their professional obligations.
Chief Executive Officer of Kristina Reports, Godswill Jumbo gave this charge on Friday, May 2, 2025 as he joined voices around that globe to mark the 2025 World Press Freedom Day.

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Rivers State Council has organized a weeklong celebration to mark the 2025 World Press Freedom Day in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
Speaking on the 2025 theme “Reporting in the Brave New World: The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Press Freedom and the Media”, Jumbo described the emergence of AI as both a groundbreaking opportunity and a significant threat to truth, transparency and democratic values.
“We are now in an era where machines can write stories, generate images, and even stimulate voices. These innovations, no doubt, have revolutionized how we formulate, generate and consume news content.”
“Sadly, however, they have also introduced dangerous risks, deep takes, automated propaganda, and disinformation.”
According to the Media guru, the misuse of AI can be exploited to distort facts and undermine the foundational role of the media in holding governments accountable.
He emphasized that AI should be seen as a tool to assist journalists, not a replacement for human integrity and judgement.
“No technology, no matter how advanced, can replace the value of independent journalism powered by ethics and responsibility”, he declared.
Jumbo called on government at all levels to put in place legal safeguards that will regulate the use of AI without stifling Press freedom.
He also encouraged media houses to adopt AI responsibly and urge the public to remain vigilant and discerning in an age of rapid digital manipulation.
“Freedom of the Press is not a luxury, it is a necessity of progress. In this digital era, our greatest weapon must be wisdom, and our greatest ally must be the free and fearless voice of the journalist “, he said.
He further reiterated the commitment of the Kristina Reports adopting the ethical codes of journalism, describing journalists as “partners in development”, rather than adversaries.
As Nigeria joins the globe community to commemorate World Press Freedom Day, Jumbo’s message echoes a broader call for the preservation of truth in an age increasingly influenced by Artificial Intelligence.
