Abia Police Initiates Investigation Over Alleged Killings by Community Vigilantes

The Abia State Police Command has initiated an investigation into the recent killings of persons by local uniform men in Umuogele, Iheorji both in Aba South Local Government area and Nkpaevula in Ugwunagbo Local Government Area of Abia State.

The announcement of the invitigation was made by the Police Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka on Friday, October 17, 2025, who said that the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), will look through the situations surrounding the alleged incidents.

“The team has been empowered to identify and apprehend any perpetrators involved in the purported crimes . All relevant stakeholders, including the Traditional Rulers, Vigilante commanders, and Youth leaders from the affected communities, are currently being interrogated by the police,” the statement read.

It was also made clear that no formal reports of such incidents had been received at its headquarters, area commands, or any divisional police stations before now.

Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa reassures the public of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state, emphasizing its constitutional mandate. “We remain unwavering in this duty. We are here to serve the people and to maintain peace and order around the state. We have started investigations and in no distance time, we will get results.” Isa stated.

The investigation aims to bring clarity and justice amid growing concerns over community vigilantism in Abia, with authorities urging calm as the probe unfolds. No arrests have been announced yet.
