The fisherfolks, who met with the Chairman’s representative under the aegis of Bonny Fishermen Association led by their Chairman, Promise Bristol, utilized the platform availed them to present their challenges and make recommendations.
During the meeting, Willie-Pepple outlined the initiatives being considered by the Bonny LGA Chairman to empower the local fishermen.
“Our initiatives are aimed at empowering our local fishermen and to promote inclusive economic participation.”

He stressed the need for partnership between the government and relevant stakeholders in the Marine and Blue Economy sector to drive development and ensure long-term impact.
The SSA on Marine and Blue Economy was accompanied to the meeting by the Chief Security Officer to the Bonny LGA Chairman, Prince Wilcox.
According to Wikipedia, the virtual encyclopedia, “The blue economy refers to the sustainable use of ocean resources for economic growth, improved livelihoods, and jobs, while preserving the health of marine ecosystems”.
“It encompasses a wide range of economic activities related to oceans, seas, and coasts, including fisheries, tourism, shipping, marine energy, and more. A key challenge is balancing economic benefits with environmental protection and social inclusion.”
Given the proximity of Bonny Island to the Atlantic Ocean, the current administration at the Bonny Local Government led by Abinye Pepple thought it wise to explore these varied opportunities in the blue economy to the benefit of the people of the area.
