Troops of the 146 Battalion Nigerian Army have restored calm in Finima Community in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State hours after suspected miscreant attacked members of the Tobin House Owu-Ogbo.

Commanding Officer of the 146 Battalion, Lt Col Oyemade Oyewumi told Kristina Reports on the telephone that his troops deployed rapidly to the scene upon receiving reports of violence in Finima Community.

According to him, a report received by his office indicated that the fracas was between members of the Brown and Tobin Chieftaincy Houses, adding that the situation has been contained and normalcy has returned to the community.

“Upon receiving information about a reported violent incident between Tobin and Brown Houses in Finima arising from today’s masquerade ceremony, our troops promptly mobilised to the scene and successfully restored law and order.”

“Troops of the 146 Battalion are currently patrolling Finima general area to ensure security of lives and properties.”

The miscreants who arrived a HiAce bus marked ‘BOBH Asawo of Finima’ assaulted the masquerade and dancers, destroying their paraphernalia, damaging their club house and chased them away with bottles, machetes and other deadly weapons.

Eyewitnesses told Kristina Reports that operatives of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) on ground during the fracas did not to contain the situation, instead drove off in their Toyota HiLux van.

But the prompt response of the Nigerian Army troops saved the day as residents expressed fear of the situation degenerating to an all out communal crisis.
