A building belonging to a former Divisional Police Officer (name withheld) was among properties vandalized on Saturday, September 27, 2025 when irate youths ostensibly from the Buoye Omuso Brown House (BOBH) attacked a cultural ceremony in Finima Community in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The son of a former Chief and Head of the Tobin Konibo-ye-Awanta Chieftaincy House, Junior Young Tobin was also sprayed with acid, just as the wife of the Vice President of the Bonny Graduates Forum (BGF), Edna Christian Tobin, and another lady, Dabota Tobin were assaulted and inflicted with severe injuries.

A Lexus sports utility vehicle (SUV) belonging to the Vice President of BGF, Christian Tobin was also vandalized, just as several other members of the Tobin House were attacked with machetes and bottles.

Sacrilege was as well committed when some of miscreants vandalized the Tobin Owu-Ogbo house and carted away the paraphernalia of their masquerade after chasing away the owners with dangerous weapons.

Strangely, all of these happened in the presence of policemen drawn from the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) Finima Division, who did nothing to contain the situation.

Kristina Reports reliably learnt that the policemen were led by their Divisional Police Officer, Mukhtar Mahdi, a chief superintendent of Police (CSP), who was present when the whole ugly drama played out.

When contacted by Kristina Reports on the issue, CSP Mahdi declined comments, saying sluringly “I am in the middle of something”.

Kristina Reports findings indicate that it took the swift intervention of security operatives from the 146 Battalion Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base, both in Bonny to quell the crisis and chase away the hoodlums.

Checks by Kristina Reports further revealed that the fracas was in furtherance of the insistence by a section of the Buoye Omuso Brown House (BOBH) to stop the Tobin House Owu-Ogbo from performing in their own section of Finima Community.

Kristina Reports enquiries reveal that Bonny Kingdom, which Finima is a part of, has 34 chieftaincy houses and each chieftaincy house is by tradition and custom entitled to individually have an Opuwari (community hall), Alali-Aru and Aruwari (celebration boat and boat house) and Owu-Ogbo (masquerade dance group).

A senior citizen of Finima, who is knowledgeable in the tradition and culture but prefers anonymity for fear of being attacked, told Kristina Reports that these three elements are required of each chieftaincy house”, expressing dismay at the conduct of irate youths.

“Brown House has its own Owu-Ogbo like any other chieftaincy house in Bonny, why are they bothering another house that is on its own and also created by the same King Perekule?”

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has so far kept mute over the rampage in Finima, particularly, the conduct of its Divisonal Police Officer and personnel who witnessed the incident without taking any action.
