With season festivities in full swing across different parts of the world, and sporting events not slowing down, Tai Local Government Area organized the annual Chairman’s Unity Football Cup, which began on Saturday, December 14, 2024.

10 teams battled it out for the ultimate prize but it was Ward 10 (comprising Ban-Ogoi Community and her other neighbouring settlements) who eventually emerged winners despite stiff competition.

The final event which held on Sunday, December 29, 2024 saw a riveting encounter between Ward 10 and Ward six (comprising Gio/Kporgho/Gbam Communities).

Ward six had before the final conceded just one goal in the competition. However, Ward 10 had lost two matches earlier on but were known for their good ball possession and precision at goals.

Regardless of Ward six’s defensive superiority, Ward 10 found the back of the net in sizling fashion in the first half and held on to the scoreline till the end, ultimately wining 1-0.

One thing that kept the champions in till the end was their precision at goal.

Previously, they had been beaten the eventual third place winners and defending champions, Ward 7 (Nonwa and Nonwa Uedume Communities) at the group stage.

In the third place event, Ward 7 and Ward 3, traded tackles in the first game and it was defending champions, Ward 7, who piped their opponents 3-0 to win bronze.

Botem Community football field, where the opening ceremony was held at, served as one of the two centers chosen for the tournament’s games; the other was the Nonwa Community football field.
