The National Union of Bonny Students (NUBS) says it regrets the tension its claims in a publication on Kristina Reports about irregularities associated with the Student Union Government (SUG) election at the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas (FPOG), Bonny in Rivers State has caused to the institution and the general public.
In a statement on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 signed by its National President, Precious Jumbo, the Union said this was in line with the mediation and peace building process initiated by the Bonny Graduates Forum (BGF).

According to the statement, stakeholders led by the President of the Bonny Graduates Forum, Jude Pepple, one time President of the National Union of Ijaw Students, Victor Ibaningo, and immediate past Senior Special Assistant on Students Affairs to the Bonny Local Government Administrator, Godswill Lawson-Jumbo, met with the rector of the Polytechnic, Dr Victor Okolobah, to smoothen out areas of differences.
He stated that at the meeting, they “were able to clarify misunderstandings and achieved peaceful resolution,” thus the need to retract the statement released by its National President during the botched FPOG SUG elections.
NUBS commended the Rector for suspending the elections due to his concerns about how the situation was degenerating, saying its National President’s actions were in line with his constitutional duties to advocate for Bonny students’ interests.

“We cleared up the rumors, harmonized our positions and reaffirmed our commitment to maintaining the good image of the Polytechnic under Dr. Victor Okolobah’s leadership.”
The NUBS National President, Precious Jumbo assured the Rector of NUBS’ genuine intentions, saying “we are pleased the matter was resolved amicably. We also appealed for an interim government, which the Rector said he will look into it”.
“We assure the public that the Polytechnic, under Dr. Okolobah’s leadership, is well-managed. There was misunderstanding, but now resolved, in the best interest of the school management and NUBS FPOG Chapter.”
