The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has suspended access to its result checker portal for the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) due to the discovery of technical errors in candidates’ results, particularly in key subjects.
In an official statement released on Wednesday, WAEC disclosed that an internal post-release review revealed inconsistencies linked to a recently introduced anti-malpractice feature known as paper serialisation.
The feature, implemented in subjects such as English Language, Mathematics, Biology, and Economics, was designed to enhance assessment integrity but has reportedly caused discrepancies in the results released to some candidates.
The examination body confirmed that the result checker portal has been temporarily disabled while its technical team works to address the anomalies.
WAEC has assured the public that the issue will be resolved within 24 hours and advised all candidates who had previously accessed their results to recheck them once the portal is restored.
“We sincerely apologise to candidates and the public for the inconvenience caused.”
“This move is necessary to uphold the credibility of our assessment system,” WAEC stated.
Candidates and stakeholders have taken to social media to express concerns, with many questioning the transparency and reliability of the 2025 WASSCE results.
Notably, there has been widespread outcry over what is perceived as mass failure in English Language, with some calling for a public review of the Council’s marking system, similar to reforms implemented by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in recent years.
This development follows earlier criticism directed at WAEC over the late-night administration of the English Language paper in certain exam centres across Nigeria, further fueling debates about the Council’s operational efficiency.
WAEC has promised to provide an official update once the portal is back online and the technical issues are fully resolved.
